AGE: 90 • Lavallette, NJ

Dorothea M. Albano nee Giacalone 90 of Lavallette, NJ died peacefully on Tuesday July 25, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Vineland, NJ, she was raised in Newark, NJ and graduated from Central High School. She married Peter M Albano, Sr. and moved to Colonia, NJ where she raised her family. She later lived in Long Valley, NJ before moving to Lavallette 5 years ago. Lavallette had been her summer home for 53 years. After raising her family, Dorothea attended the Ducret School of the Arts in Plainfield, NJ and received a Degree in Fine Arts in 1989. She viewed the world as her canvas and loved to paint whatever caught her eye at that particular moment. Although she received an award from Nabisco for a Portrait of her granddaughter, her proudest achievement in life was the family that she raised. She was active in the Catholic Church, first at St. John Vianney in Colonia and then at St. Pio of Pietrelcina in Lavallette. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years Peter Sr, her son Matthew and his wife, Michele, of Westfield, NJ, her daughter, Joy Haag and her husband, Peter, of Hackettstown, NJ, her daughter, Angel Plunkett and her husband, Ken, of Toms River, her sister, Margaret Giacalone Trento of Wayne, NJ, 11 loving Grandchildren, 5 cherished Great Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son Peter and her brother, Joseph Giacalone. Family will receive friends on Thursday July 27, 2017 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals 145 St. Catherine Blvd. Toms River, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday July 28, 2017 at 10am at St. Pio of Pietrelcina in Lavallette, NJ. Committal will follow to Ocean County Memorial Park in Toms River, NJ.
