AGE: 92 • Jackson

Dorothy Olsen of Jackson, NJ passed away peacefully at Centra State Medical Center in Freehold. Dorothy was born in Perth Amboy, NJ on May 14, 1924. Dot lived in Perth Amboy, Edison, and Brick. She lived in Jackson for the past 3 years with her daughter Janet McNamara and her husband Patrick and her three grandchildren Patrick, Timmy and Jenny.

Dot was predeceased by her mother and father Mary and Michael Merski, her husband, Oscar A. Olsen Jr. in 1966 and son Leroy Olsen in 2005.

Dot raised her 3 children Leroy, Nancy and Janet, in Edison, NJ. During World War II, Dot worked binding ammunition documentation at the Raritan Arsenal in Edison, NJ, which is now the site of the Middlesex County College campus. When her husband Oscar died in 1966, Dot went to work at Garden State Shipping in Keasbey, NJ, where she worked for 24 years and retired in 1986.

She is survived by 4 other grandchildren, Michael Olsen, Michelle and husband Joe Johnson, Christina and husband Rich Hyp and Lianna and husband Doug Hildebrand. She also has 6 great grandchildren.

Dot was a kind, caring, quiet and generous woman who never said anything bad about anyone. Dot loved doing crossword puzzles, reading the Enquirer and watching old game shows like Price is Right, Family Feud, and Wheel of Fortune. Dot loved dancing when she was younger, especially the Polka. More recently, she enjoyed "going dancing", on Monday nights. This meant she was going into her room to watch Dancing with the Stars.

Dot was blessed with loving caregivers who came to the house and treated her like family.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4 to 8pm at The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals Debow Chapel 150 West Veteran Highway Jackson, NJ 08527. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday 11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow to Clover Leaf Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ. Condolences may be sent by visiting
