AGE: 101 • Tinton Falls

Dorothy Nilson Peterson, 101, of Tinton Falls died November 22 at home surrounded by her family. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she graduated from Long Branch High School and Newark Normal School (now Kean University). Dot taught in Long Branch before marrying Harold "Skeets" Peterson, the love of her life, in 1939. They settled in Monmouth Beach where they raised their six children. They moved to Kensington Court (now Arbor Terrace of Shrewsbury). Thanks to the staff for taking such good care of her.

Mom cherished her time with her family and friends, making everyone feel welcome in our home. Laughter, love, games, and food were always being served up at 11 Navesink.

Dorothy was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of Monmouth Beach, and the Monmouth Beach Library Association.

Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Harold, daughter Janet Moser and son-in-law Harry "Skip" Mottola. Surviving are her children: Nancy DuCasse (Robert) of Arlington, TX; Judy Martinelly, Shrewsbury; Barbara Peterson, Shrewsbury Twp, Harold Peterson (Barb), Malvern PA; and Marjorie Mottola, Neptune; her grandchildren: Jennifer Stanley, Julie Stover, Paul DuCasse, Jeff DuCasse, Michelle Masonius, Amanda Martinelly, Betsy Martinelly, Shannon Carroll, Greg Peterson, Mindy Peterson and Rev. Peter Mottola; 21 great-grandchildren; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call on Monday, November 28 at Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave, Long Branch, from 3 - 6 PM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 29 at 11 AM at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 61 Atlantic Avenue, Long Branch, with interment following at Glenwood Cemetery, West Long Branch.
