AGE: 75 • Manalapan

Dorothy Anna Baumgartner Peterson, of Manalapan passed away on September 30, 2017 at age 75.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Raymond Peterson; her daughter, Nancy D. Durie and husband Robert Durie; their sons, Joseph, Thomas and John; a daughter, Dorothy S. Peterson and husband Timothy Whitaker and grandson, Charles Blackwell IV and his wife Ashley (nee Arnone) and their daughter, Elizabeth; a brother, Frank Baumgartner and wife Joyce; and nephew Robert Baumgartner.

Dot, as she was known to her family and many friends, was born in Bronx, N.Y. on October 20, 1941. She graduated from Walton High School and attended CCNY. From 1958 to 1965 she was employed by Sperry Rand Corporation in New York City. She was a volunteer for the CentraState Healthcare System for many years and was employed as manager of the CentraState Thrift Shop, Freehold for 19 years from 1994 to 2013.

Dot and Ray like to travel and spent many happy years exploring the world and took more than 30 cruises visiting over 70 countries. Dot, along with Ray hosted many elegant dinners for their family and friends. There were known for fine cooking and baking. They made every guest feel special.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to support the mission of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke may be sent to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Financial Management Branch Building 31, Room 8A34, 31 Center Drive, MSC 2540, Bethesda, MD 20892-2540.
