Dorothy Smith

AGE: 87 • Howell

Dorothy "Thea" Smith, 87, of Howell passed away at home with her loving family at her side on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Dorothy was born in Helmstedt. Germany, where she met her husband, Isaac at the age of 16. A war bride, she then immigrated to the United States in 1948. Dorothy lived in Asbury Park, White Sands, Alaska, Fort Monmouth, and Wayside before taking up residence in Howell in 1975. She worked as Macy's in Eatontown as a sales associate until her retirement in 1994. A parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, she belonged to the Rosary Altar Society. Some of her hobbies included gardening, arts and crafts, and crocheting. Everyone who knew her, knew her as "Oma" and fittingly, Dorothy's grandchildren and great grandchildren were her delight.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Isaac "Ike" Smith in 2008. Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Paul Joseph Smith and his wife, Lynn of Roebling, and Michael John Smith of Howell; three daughters, Dotti Hansen and her husband, Ron DaPonte of Fort Meyers, FL, Theresa D'Aromando and her husband, Mike of Farmingdale, and Nancy Racek and her husband, Tim of Kentucky; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two sisters, her twin, Herte Letsche of Oakhurst, and Lisa Reithmuller of Florida.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524) Freehold Township on Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
