Douglas J. Gatta, 75, of Allenhurst, NJ, passed away on July 12, 2017 in Indio, California. He was born on March 20, 1942 to Elinor Weldon Gatta and O. Ernest Gatta.

Douglas lived and practiced law at the Jersey Shore his entire life, retiring to California in 2012. After graduating from Asbury Park High School, where he excelled as a student athlete, Doug earned a football scholarship to Clemson University. He returned to complete his bachelor's degree in history from Monmouth College (now Monmouth University) in 1968. In 1971, Doug received his Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law and was admitted to the NJ Bar, US District Court NJ, US District Court Northern NY and US Court of Claims. Doug was a member of the American Bar Association, NJ State Bar Association, Monmouth County Bar and he was a Monmouth County ADR mediator. Following a few years practicing in north Jersey, he joined his father, O. Ernest Gatta, in 1973. Subsequently, he was an originating partner of the firm of Abrams and Gatta in 1981. His focus in law was on real estate, business and probate areas.

Doug loved to write and in retirement published a parent/children's book, "Left and Right" through Page Publishing in November, 2013. He also penned numerous short stories, essays, and poems which he was organizing for publication at the time of his passing. Most recently, Doug was a frequent guest teacher for kindergarten, first and second graders, teaching critical thinking skills to elementary aged school children.

As a former member of the Deal Golf and Country Club, Doug enjoyed many wonderful years perfecting his game. He was well respected and admired by his family, colleagues and friends, especially those who challenged him in golf.

Doug was predeceased by his parents Elinor and Ernest Gatta. He is survived by his siblings, Lynne Relles (David) of Wayside, Frank Gatta (Tracie) of Wanamassa, Lee Gatta Reddick (Joe) of Syracuse NY, two nephews Douglas D. Gatta and Michael Gatta, niece Elinor Relles Tappe of San Francisco CA., great nephew David W. Corbin, and great niece Claudia G. Tappe. He is also survived by his former spouse Connie Gatta and her children Margaret, John and Caroline; one Aunt, Pat Gatta and many loving cousins.
