AGE: 83 • Toms River

Edward D. Ferris of Toms River, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2017 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, New Jersey.

Born July 5, 1933 the son of Howard and Wilhelmina Obst Ferris of Elizabeth, New Jersey, Ed attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Elizabeth. Ed enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1952, served aboard the USS Tarawa Aircraft Carrier during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged as a Private First Class in 1955 (active duty) and 1960 (reserves). He worked as a supervisor at Thomas & Betts Corporation in Elizabeth for 40 years.

Ed was a member of St. Justin Roman Catholic Church in Toms River through the date of his death. He was also active with the Knights of Columbus No. 4969 in Toms River, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Marine Corps League in Linden, New Jersey.

Ed was survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Galiszewski Ferris of Toms River, a daughter, Donna M. Hall of Kiawah Island, South Carolina (Wells), a son, Raymond J. Ferris of St. Augustine, Florida (Geri), two grandchildren, Hannah Louise Ferris of Dallas, Texas, and William Howard Ferris of St. Augustine, Florida, and a sister, Marlene Ferris Simpson of Amarillo, Texas.

Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 995 Fischer Boulevard, Toms River, is serving the Ferris family. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 to 8 PM on Sunday, June 18, 2017 and the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Justin Roman Catholic Church at 9:30 AM on Monday, June 19, 2017. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Linden, New Jersey.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Justin Roman Catholic Church, 975 Fischer Blvd., Toms River, NJ 08753.
