Edward Zygmunt Szkoda, age 83, of Brick, NJ passed away peacefully at Ocean Medical Center on January 14th, 2017. Edward was born in Brooklyn ,NY to Bronislaw and Wladyslawa Szkoda on January 10th 1934. He graduated from Xavier High School in Manhattan before proudly serving in the US Air Force from 1950 to 1953. Edward was also a graduate of Hunter College (CUNY) in NY. During his career he worked for The Equitable/AXA, NYC, NY as a Systems Analyst, retiring in 1985 and for the State of NJ, retiring in 1998. He lived in Manalapan where he raised his family from 1965 until moving to Brick in 2011. Edward was previously a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy RC Church in Englishtown and currently was a parishioner of St. Dominic's RC Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 434 and the Knights of Columbus Prince of Peace Council 5903, both of Englishtown, Nj. Always the athlete, Edward played baseball and basketball for most of his life, and he enjoyed coaching youth football and recreation girl's softball leagues, both in Manalapan, NJ. He was also an avid Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Football Giants fan. In the later years, reading and crossword puzzles remained a passion. He will be greatly missed.

Edward is survived by his wife of 58 years Ena (O'Doherty) Szkoda, by his daughters, Eunice Szkoda Jinks and her husband Richard of Brick and Ena Wojciechowski and her husband Davif of Brooklyn. He is also survived by three grandchildren, James Wojciechowski, Timothy and Matthew Jinks.

The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday, January 18th, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm at Colonial Funeral Home 2170 Highway 88 Brick, NJ 08724. The funeral mass will be offered 10:00am, Thursday, January 19th, 2017 at St. Dominic's RC Church, Brick, NJ. Cremation will be handled privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edward's memory to the St. Dominic School Tuition Assistance Program, 250 Old Squan Road Brick, NJ 08724.
