Toms River - Eileen Hedinger, 106, of Toms River passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at Green Acres Nursing Home in Toms River.

She was born in New York City to the late Charles and Mary Ryon. She lived in Orange and Caldwell, NJ before moving to Toms River in 1956. She was a telephone operator for the Bell Telephone Company in Newark before moving to Toms River where she became the switchboard operator at the Ocean County Courthouse until her retirement. She and her husband Len retired to Englewood Beach, Florida. She moved back to New Jersey in 2010.

Eileen was very active in community and charity groups and was an avid fundraiser for the Deborah Hospital Foundation. She was a member of the East Dover Auxiliary Fire Department, the East Dover First Aid Squad and the Progressive Women's Club of Toms River.

She continued to volunteer her time with the Knights of Columbus, The Elks Lodge and the Council of Catholic Women, St. Raphael Catholic Church, in Englewood, Florida.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Leonard Hedinger and her son Leonard Hedinger, Jr. She is survived by her son Thomas Hedinger and his wife Joanne. She is also survived by Carole Hedinger and Irene Hedinger. Her grandchildren: Cathleen Turi, Susan Guida and her husband Vincent, Sean Hedinger and his wife Tara, Nicole Stark and her husband Robert, Allison Person and her husband Shawny, Nicole Trivigno and her husband Pudge, and ten great grandchildren.

Cremation will be private and a celebration of her life will be determined at a later date.
