Elizabeth "Bette" Crane Perkowski

AGE: 87 • Toms River

Elizabeth "Bette" Crane Perkowski, 87, died on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at her home. She moved to Toms River in 1964 and managed the office of the late Drs. Stanley Siegler and Robert Gorczyca at X-Ray Associates for many years. Certified by the Library of Congress in 1989 as a volunteer braille transcriber, Bette brailled children's textbooks for the New Jersey Commission for the Blind for 18 years. As a licensed amateur radio operator (call sign WI2U) and member of the American Radio Relay League, she earned the highest FCC designation of "Extra Class." Bette learned to copy Morse code at over 20 words per minute and enjoyed conversing with other amateur radio operators around the world. She delighted in the presence of her family and always cheered their accomplishments. Bette was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Toms River for 53 years and remained a faithful follower of Jesus through the very last moments of her life.

Bette was married to her late husband Frank M. Perkowski for 59 years. She is survived by her two sons Michael of Bethel, VT and Frank and his wife Sue of Toms River; grandchildren Brian and his wife, Kristen, David and his wife Tara, Mark, and Kate; three great-grandchildren Alex, Kyle and Lucy; her sister Geraldine Waterhouse and two nieces Eileen and Carol.

There will be a private service.
