AGE: 78 • Lakewood

Elizabeth "Betty" H. Papp ( nee Hughes ), 78 of Lakewood, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017 at Community Medical Center, Toms River.

Betty was born in New Brunswick, and lived in Metuchen before moving to Lakewood many years ago. She was an alumnus of Metuchen High School, Class of 1957. Over the years she took courses at Rider College, Lawreceville, Rutgers College, New Brunswick and Union College, Cranford.

Betty was employed by Middlesex County Board of Welfare from 1967 ~ 1971. Then she was employed by Merrill Lynch & Company, New York City from 1971 ~ 1984. Betty was always interested in helping others. Her last employer was the State of New Jersey in the Department of Youth and Family Services as a Social Worker. She worked in the Jersey City office from 1984 ~ 1988 and the Newark office from 1988 ~ 2002. She was a member of Christ Church, Toms River; a member of the Ministry to Disabled ~ Diocese of New Jersey; YMCA Special needs Program, Toms River; previous Member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Cranford, NJ and was the Liaison to Diocesan Convocation.

She is preceded in death by her devoted husband Martin J. Papp, who passed away in 2004; loving daughter of Daniel W. and Adele Hughes.

She is survived by her beloved sisters Ruth H. and her husband Robert Willis and Joan H. and her husband James Kindle; cherished sister ~ in ~ law of Allen Papp and Susan Clarke; adored aunt of many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 3 pm at the Christ Episcopal Church, 415 Washington Street, Toms River, NJ. Interment will follow at the church memorial garden. Arrangements are entrusted to the Gustav J. Novak Funeral Home, 419 Barclay Street, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861. Donations in Betty's memory can be made to Christ Episcopal Church.
