Elizabeth "Betty" Wilke Obituary
Elizabeth "Betty" Wilke

AGE: 91 •

Elizabeth "Betty" Wilke, a long-time resident of Ocean Grove, NJ died Wednesday the 15th of February at The Sherman Oaks Hospital in Sherman Oaks, CA.

Born on July 16, 1925 in Newark, NJ, Betty lived and grew up with her beloved mother, father, and six other siblings on Merchant Street in Newark, NJ and attended East Side High School. When Betty's mother passed, the family eventually moved to Montclair, NJ. Betty was a summer resident of Ocean Grove for 20 years until she took permanent residence after she retired for another 18 years, totaling 38 years on her beloved Webb Avenue.

Betty was a loyal and devoted worker. She served the honorable Judge Lawrence Bilder for over two decades. Far more than a legal secretary, Betty worked closely with Judge Bilder and was his "right hand" throughout his inspiring career all the way to the Superior Court of New Jersey.

Betty was a devout Catholic who deeply enjoyed her community over at Mt. Carmel (Mother of Mercy) Church in Asbury Park, NJ. She loved the ocean and would often be found sitting on her porch, taking long walks on the boards, or delighting in the charm and wonder Ocean Grove provided. She was kind and loving and yet a fierce survivor. Her family meant everything to her and she gave all that she had to ensure their happiness.

She is predeceased by her beloved parents, Elizabeth and Ernest Wilke, her beloved siblings, Ernest Wilke Jr., William Wilke, Joeseph Wilke, Bertha Wilke, Edward Wilke, and Margaret Wilke Maccie.

She is survived by her devoted niece, Elizabeth Maccie Chbosky and her nephew-in-law, Stephen Chbosky, who recently moved Betty out to Los Angeles, CA where Betty's grand-niece, Maccie Margaret Chbosky, and her grandnephew, Theodore Frederick Chbosky, brought Betty endless hours of laughter, "beauty shop" make-overs, and whimsical Play-Doh tea parties. Betty was a unique, inspiring, beautiful woman who will be deeply missed by her brother-in-law, Amil Maccie, all of her nieces and nephews, Amil Maccie Jr., Joey and Sandy Wilke, Elizabeth and Peter Connely, Mary Jo McNulty, Catherine Payne, Geri Taylor, Janice Vitella, Karen Wilke, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, great-grand nieces, great-grand nephews, friends and all of the neighbors from Webb Avenue who loved Betty dearly.

Visitation will be on Sunday, February 26, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Reilly Bonner Funeral Home, 801 D Street, Belmar NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Asbury Park. Committal to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery , East Hanover NJ.
