Ellen Walsh Obituary
Ellen Walsh

Interlaken

Ellen Walsh of Interlaken passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017 after a brief illness. Ellen was born on June 9, 1935 in Fayetteville, NC, the youngest of five children. She moved to New Jersey in 1953 but never lost her fabulous Southern accent. She worked as a secretary at Monmouth Medical Center in the early 1960s, where she met Michael Walsh, the love of her life. The two settled in Interlaken and enjoyed fifty years of marriage before Michael's passing in 2016.

Ellen was known for her passion for animals, musical theater, classic movies, and Elvis. She volunteered at Red Bank's Phoenix Productions for over twenty years and remains an honorary trustee. Of the many shows she produced at Phoenix, her favorites were "42nd Street" and "Singin' in the Rain". She was a member of the congregation of Old First United Methodist Church since the 1960's and a social member of Deal Golf and Country Club since the 1980s. She loved to entertain and was an impeccable hostess, holding some of the best parties in Interlaken. In her later years, Ellen enjoyed going on cruises and spending time at her beachside condo in Ocean City, MD. She knew she led a charmed life, and she generously shared her good fortune with others.

Ellen is preceded in death by her husband Dr. Michael D. Walsh, her parents and siblings, her beloved Maltese Nikki, over twenty cats, and Elvis Presley.

She is survived by her daughter Miki Tapio Walsh and son-in-law Mark Tapio Kines, her niece and nephew Theresa and Richard Loehr and their family, and many dear friends. She loved them all very much.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 24 at Old First United Methodist Church, 197 Locust Ave., West Long Branch, at 12pm. Entombment will follow at Woodbine Mausoleum, 14 Maple Ave., Oceanport. A reception celebrating Ellen's life will follow at Deal Country Club, 1 Golf Lane, Deal.

Flowers (especially yellow roses) may be sent to Old First United Methodist Church or to Deal Country Club. Donations in Ellen's name may be sent to Phoenix Productions, Box 727, Red Bank, NJ 07701, or to Best Friends Animal Society. Buckley Funeral Home, Asbury Park is in charge of the arrangements.
