Erich Manfred Klaiber Obituary
Erich Manfred Klaiber

Erich Manfred Klaiber (1935-2017) passed away on September 4, 2017 due to complications from prostate cancer.

Erich was born in Berlin Germany to Fritz and Anna Klaiber. After a difficult childhood and family life during World War II and in the years after, the family was delighted to have the opportunity to emigrate to the United States in 1957 where Erich's father used his skills as a highly respected physicist to work on the development of long range beyond line-of-sight drones for the Avionics Division at Fort Monmouth. Erich served a tour of duty in the US Army in Korea during the Korean conflict from 1958-1959. After that, he attended Monmouth College (now University) where he earned his bachelors degree in chemistry. He went on to earn a masters in chemistry from Lehigh University, whereupon he went to work as a chemist for International Flavors and Fragrances Inc. (IFF).

After his time at IFF, Erich went on to work for OSHA, where he was a safety and health compliance officer for 26 years. Near his retirement from OSHA, Erich met the love of his life, Tilla, and they enjoyed travel, especially cruises around Europe, cooking, and great conversation for 20 years. Erich enjoyed visiting his family in Arizona and back in Germany almost every year. Erich was predeceased by his parents and his brother Gehrhart Klaiber of Arizona. He is survived by his companion Tilla Lieberman, two nieces Eva Garvey (Ken) and Kim Kunasek (Andy), both of Arizona, five great nieces and nephews, and three great-great nieces and nephews. His friendly, chatty, and deeply curious nature will be missed by all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to gather from 12:30 - 2:30pm on Friday September 8, 2017 at Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, 2652 Highway 138, Wall,NJ. Memorial Service and the interment immediately to follow at Monmouth Memorial Park Cemetery, Tinton Falls, NJ. Donations may be made in Erich's name to the cancer research organization of your choice.
