Long Beach Township, NJ - Ernest W. Fix, 92, of Long Beach Township passed away on March 26, 2018 at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ. Ernest was born on September 3, 1925 in Orange, NJ and was raised in Roselle Park, NJ, where he met his beloved wife of 70 years, Audrey. He graduated from Roselle Park High School in 1943 and shortly thereafter he enlisted in the US Navy. He was assigned duty on a Destroyer Escort, where he saw action at Okinawa, along with other major Pacific battles and ultimately participated in the evacuation of Nagasaki after the war was over. Ernest returned to duty during the Korean War, stationed at Bainbridge, MD where he prepared troops for battle. Following the war, he and his parents established the American Surgical Company, a hospital supply business that operated in Newark for over 40 years. During his residence in Roselle Park, Ernest served as Commissioner and President of the Board of Health and was a committeeman for the 5th Ward Republican Party. He enjoyed most his leadership role in the Roselle Park Cub Pack 155.

Upon his retirement in the early 90's, Ernest relocated to Long Beach Island, where he worked for 20 years at Between the Sheets in Ship Bottom. He was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church where he ushered for many years and enjoyed swimming at the parish center - one of his favorite activities. He loved relaxing on the beach and travelling to Key West annually with Audrey and the family.

He was a proud member of the Destroyer Escort Sailor Association- NJ Chapter and Historical Foundation along with the American Legion Post #60 Roselle Park and VFW Post #3729 of Long Beach Island.

Surviving Mr. Fix is his dear wife of 70 years Audrey Fix, daughter Virginia Franklin (Paul), son Michael Fix (Luz) and daughter Patricia Tikku (Arvind) along with 4 grandchildren, Douglas, Cherie, Dhruv, and Devon.

A Viewing will be held on Saturday, April 7th, 2018 from 10:00 am until the time of the Funeral Liturgy at 11:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 4700 Long Beach Blvd., Brant Beach, NJ 08008. A Chapel Service will be offered on Monday, April 9th at 2:30 pm at B/G William C. Doyle Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ernest's memory may be made to the Destroyer Escort Historical Museum, USS Slater DE-766, P.O. Box 1926, Albany, NY 12201. Arrangements are under the direction of Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home, 1119 Long Beach Blvd., Ship Bottom, NJ 08008, (609) 494-2565.
