Eugene D. Wright Sr. Obituary
Eugene D. Wright, Sr.

AGE: 87 • Lanoka Harbor

Eugene D. Wright, Sr., of Lanoka Harbor passed away on July 21 at the age of 87 after a short illness. He was born and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey, the second youngest of five siblings. He fell in love with Josephine Wright (nee Juanes) when he was just five years old and married her in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and thereafter, started his own construction business. He moved from Elizabeth to Beachwood in 1970. In 1986, he and his wife Josephine moved to Lanoka Harbor, where he resided until his passing.

Mr. Wright worked in construction until his retirement at the age of 76. He loved boats, crabbing, fishing, gardening, listening to bluegrass at Albert Music Hall, watching his grandson wrestle, watching his granddaughter play rugby, and having breakfast at the German Butcher Shop with friends. He was a formidable boxer, and Golden Gloves champion. He was always the first one on the dance floor at a wedding and his stamina exhausted people a fraction of his age.

Mr. Wright is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Josephine; his parents, Harry and Anna Wright; his siblings Harold Wright, Anna Kerrick, Margaret Noto, and George Wright; and his companion, Joyce Cybulsky.

He is survived by his son, Eugene D. Wright, Jr. and his wife, Kathe Sadler-Wright of Forked River; his son, Michael J. Wright and his wife, Marianne Wright of Toms River; his grandson, Dr. Evan M. Wright and his fiancee, Victoria Schilder, of Long Branch; his granddaughter, Callan Wright Tauster and her husband, David A. Tauster of Oceanside, NY; his great-grandson, Henry C. Tauster of Oceanside, NY; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

He will be remembered that all that knew him as a hard-working, hilarious, feisty man who loved his family and cherished his friends.

Family and friends are invited to visit on July 24 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Horizon Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1329 Rte 37 W, Toms River. A funeral mass will be held on July 25 at 11 AM at St. Joseph's RC Church, 685 Hooper Ave, Toms River.
