Everett C. Smith Obituary
Everett C. Smith

AGE: 84 • Toms River

Age 84, of Toms River, NJ, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2016. Devoted husband and soul mate of Evelyn Smith for 64 years. Beloved father of Robin Smith Coward (Robert) and Everett Jr. (Susan). Honored grandfather of Chelsea Smith, Brad Smith, Stephanie Coward, Blair Coward and her husband Vlad Semendyai.

Everett was born and raised in Staten Island, NY before joining the United States Air Force in 1951 and was stationed at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, SC. Upon leaving the service, he settled down in Matawan, NJ, where he lived for most of his life with his wife and family. He made his career with the E.I. Dupont Company of Parlin, NJ retiring as an Area Supervisor in 1988 after 33 years of service. He was an avid boater and Captain of the Paramour II, his second love. A member of the Raritan Bay Power Squadron since 1969, he served as Commander in 1989. He was a member of the Toms River Seaport Society, and a former member of the Keyport Yacht Club and the Light House Point Yacht Club in Toms River. He was also a member of the Keyport American Legion. Everett was an accomplished boat captain and taught seamanship classes for the United States Power Squadron. He was a generous person known for lending assistance to everyone especially those at the marina, which sometimes seemed like his second home. He will be well remembered as a kind person who encouraged all to pursue their goals in life. An optimist by nature, he was the ultimate cheerleader for his family and their dreams. He loved the ocean, and he loved being around people, his family and friends. He was a passionate animal lover and always stopped to pet any dog that came his way! He will always be remembered for his big smile and his effervescent, yet down to earth personality. His positive attitude and enthusiasm for life was contagious, and his outgoing personality endeared him to many. He was and will always be admired, appreciated, and loved by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be set at a later date.
