Felix Joseph Lavicka, 88, of Oakhurst, passed away on Monday, May 8, 2017.

He was born and raised in New York City, the son of Felix Lavicka and Anna Petrasek, themselves both Czech immigrants by way of Ellis Island. He married Blossom Grafstein in 1958 and built a home at 400 Lawrence Avenue in Oakhurst, Ocean Township where he lived for 56 years before moving to Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls 4 years ago.

He lived a life devoted to his passions of Family, Skiing, Tennis, Traveling, and Engineering. He was always working on personal engineering projects especially as they relate to electronics, radio/tv transmissions, and solar energy. He received an award from Governor Brendan Bryne for being one of the first home owners in New Jersey to implement their own Solar Heating in 1978. Felix's workbench was always full.

He obtained an Engineering degree in Physics from New York University and a Masters in Electrical Engineering from Rutgers University.

He worked for the government, Fort Monmouth, where he developed radiation detection equipment and nuclear electromagnetic pulse (EMP) measurement devices used during the age of atomic testing. He later worked at Evans Laboratory developing sophisticated military and commercial electronic sensor surveillance systems such as REMBASS. He retired from the government in 1984, taking various consulting positions before fully retiring in 1997.

In retirement he fulfilled his dream of becoming a "tennis bum", playing in numerous groups and clubs over the years. He was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church in West Long Branch.

He was predeceased by his wife, Blossom in 1967. Felix is survived by his companion of 30+ years, Elsie LaParre; his 3 children, Paul and wife Elizabeth, Jill and husband Jesse Pike, and Matthew and wife Marietta; his 6 grandchildren, Kristen and husband Richard, Juliana and fiance Erich, Jesse, Max, Cal and Reese; and 1 great-grandson, Evan.

Also his extended family of Elsie's 3 children Ronny and wife Margaret, Mickey and wife Rachael, Danny and wife Teddy; Elsie's 2 grandchildren Danny and Jeffrey; and Elizabeth's 1 child Jackson.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2-4 & 7-9 pm on Monday May 15th at the Fiore Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road, Oakhurst, Ocean Township. Funeral Service 10 am Tuesday May 16th at the funeral home followed by burial at Fair View Cemetery in Middletown. For condolences, please visit
