Lakewood - FLORA "Cookie" PISANO

On February 4, Cookie passed away at home at the age of 74 after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Bartholomew and Flora (D'Esposito) Longobardi. She is survived by her beloved son and his husband, Joe Pisano and Steven Russell of Matawan, her loving sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Jimmy Corsaro of Lakewood, and two nephews and their spouses: Bart and Bernadette Corsaro of Malvern, PA, and Vincent and Cindy Corsaro of Manchester, MD. She is also survived by many dear grandnieces and grandnephews, one great-grandnephew, extended family members, and many loving friends.

She is predeceased by her sister, Mary Lou Longobardi and her nephew John Corsaro (husband of Jo Ann of Bridgewater).

Cookie got her nickname in childhood because everyone thought she was the sweetest little girl. Cookie graduated with a degree in Education from St. John's College in Queens, NY and started her career as an elementary school reading and math teacher on Long Island before raising her son to school age. She then returned to teaching at Resurrection-Ascension School in Rego Park, NY for almost 20 years followed by a 16 year career in the New York City Public Schools where she ascended to Reading Coordinator for the district. She retired to Four Seasons in Lakewood in 2006 where she quickly became known as "The Energizer Bunny", making many wonderful friends and working on various committees and on the Board of Trustees of the community. Cookie's family is extremely thankful to these friends for their endless support and for rallying around her during her fight with this awful disease. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Cookie was "One Spunky Lady", making up for her petite stature with boundless energy. She captivated all who came in contact with her vibrant and charming personality. She always put others ahead of herself and was extremely generous with her time, talent, and treasure. She loved entertaining and surrounding herself with family and friends, especially around the holidays. She enjoyed cooking and baking delicious cookies and chocolates, traveling around the world by land and sea, as well as bowling, bocce, and golf, winning the Flight C Four Seasons golf tournament in 2014.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in Cookie's name to either the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, or , one of Cookie's favorite charities.

Visitation will be held at Silverton Memorial Funeral Home in Toms River on Friday, February 9 from 2-4 pm and 6-9 pm followed by a Mass of Resurrection on Saturday morning at 9:30am at the Church of the Visitation in Brick. www.silvertonmemorial.com.
