Florence Massa

AGE: 88 • Toms River

Florence Massa, 88, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017. She was born in Jersey City to the late Vito and Philomena (Lombardo) Carbutti. Florence lived in Holiday City, Toms River from 1988 to present.

Florence is predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years Vito Massa, her sister Mary Cucco, her son-in-law Dr. Walter G. Barr and her granddaughter Maria Barr.

She is survived by her children Dr. Mary Massa, Vito and Carol Massa, and Nicholas and Carol Massa; her grandchildren Walter and Hally Barr, Luke Barr and Dr. Bridget Whitehead, Dr. Christopher and Kate Massa, Lauren, Amy, Nicholas, and Christina Massa and great-grandchildren Anna and Emma Massa. She is also loved by many nieces and nephews and her beloved brothers and sisters in law, Patrick Massa, Irene Massa, Dr. Thomas and Nicol Massa, Nicholas and Linda Massa, and Theresa Massa and the late Anthony Massa.

To know Florence, was to love her. She was kind and compassionate, never having a bad word to say about any one. She was the model of strength and courage to her family through many difficult times and was always available to listen and empathize with those needing support and encouragement. Asking for little for herself, her greatest joys were helping her children to become responsible and capable adults and showering her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with love. Florence was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Jersey City and St. Maximillian Kolbe Church in Toms River.

The family wishes to thank Doris, Florence's live in caretaker, for 17 months of devoted service, compassion and companionship.

Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3-7 pm at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday 10:30 am at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Toms River. Burial will follow at the New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, 200 Southeast First Street, Suite 800, Miami, Florida 33131 -
