AGE: 79 • Island Heights

Florida "Dee Dee" Frankovich, 79, longtime resident of Island Heights, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2017. Florida was a student of the first graduating class of Ocean County College Nursing School in 1967 and proudly designed the original nurse's cap that is still used today. She was a nurse for many years and retired from Community Medical Center after working in the operating room for 30 years. As a survivor of Polio, Florida was invited to sing at a benefit fund raiser with singer Eddy Arnold, which she was honored to do. She loved spending time with her family and friends and will be dearly missed.

Surviving are her son Michael and his wife Katie of Island Heights; her grandson Mike Jr., who was the light of her life and her companion Frank Heckman. Florida was one of eleven children of the late William and Marguerite (Tilton) Landry. She is survived by four siblings; Helen Houston (Herbert), Sandra McAllister, Patrick Landry (Anna) and Linda Pingaro (Ronald); and friends Carol and Jack Davidson. Florida was predeceased by six siblings; William (Thomas), Charles, Margaret, Fay, James and her legal guardians Lindsey and Irma Lemming.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 7 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Toms River.
