AGE: 87 • Manchester Twp. and Jensen Beach, FL

Frank John Malta, M.D., 87, of Manchester Township, NJ, and Jensen Beach, FL, died peacefully at his home on February 23, 2017. Beloved husband of over 60 years to Ruth (Lavender) Malta; loving father of Michael J. Malta and his wife Kathy, James G. Malta, Matthew J. Malta and his wife Patricia. Grandfather to five grandchildren: Michael, Nicholas, Nathan, Samuel and Maggie. He was preceded in death by his brothers Vito, Joseph and John Malta and sister Cecilia Tomko.

Dr. Malta was born August 3, 1929 in Asbury Park, New Jersey, son of the late Vito and Catherine (Lavinio) Malta. As a child he attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel then Asbury Park High School. In 1955 he graduated from Tulane Medical School and then went on to complete his Internal Medicine residency at Buffalo Memorial Hospital. After serving 3 years in the US Air Force as a flight surgeon, he began his medical practice in 1961 in Toms River, NJ. He was in private practice there for 33 years.

During his career his accomplishments included the appointment by Governor Thomas Kean to the NJ Board of Medical Examiners where he then served as president between 1987-1989. He also served as chief of staff at Community Medical Center and was president of both the NJ Society of Internal Medicine and Ocean County Medical Society. He served as a member of the county Office on Aging's Senior Advisory Committee for 20 years.

A viewing will be held Monday February 27, 2017, from 2:00 - 4:00 & 7:00 - 9:00 PM at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main Street, Toms River, NJ. A mass to celebrate Frank's life will be held 12:30 PM Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Toms River. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Toms River.
