Lt. Col. Frank M. Wladich (Ret.)

AGE: 88 • Manasquan

Frank M. Wladich, 88, retired Lieutenant Colonel, Deputy Superintendent of the NJ State Police passed away on Saturday, January 7,2017. He was born in North Bergen and raised in Hoboken, Hudson County. He is a graduate of Demarest High School and had attended Montclair State College. A US Navy veteran of World War II and upon his discharge was employed by the US Maritime Commission until he enlisted in the NJ State Police in 1952 as a member of the 41st State Police Class. he served on general patrol duty at various stations in Troop B (North Jersey) prior to his assignment to the Educational Services Unit at Troop B Headquarters. He was promoted to the grade of Sergeant in 1962 and Sergeant First Class in 1967. He advanced in rank to Lieutenant in 1969 while assigned as Chief of the Governmental Security Bureau at the State House. The following year he was named Traffic Officer for Troop D (NJ Turnpike). Promoted to the rank of Captain in 1975, he was transferred to Division Headquarters in West Trenton and assigned to the Deputy Superintendent's Office. He served as assistant to the Deputy Superintendent until elevated to the staff position of Major in 1978. On June 1, 1981 he advanced to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was named Deputy Superintendent. Lieutenant Colonel Wladich acted as Chief of Staff to the Superintendent, supervising all staff functions. He also served as a Secretary/Treasurer of the State and Provincial Division of the International Associations of Chiefs of Police. Throughout his law enforcement career, he completed supervisory, management training programs at Montclair State College and Northwestern University. He closed a 30-year career with the State Police when he retired on August 1, 1982 and immediately went on to become Executive Director of Corporate Security for Time-Warner, Inc., 75 Rockefeller Plaza, NY until he retired in 1993. Frank was a lifetime member of the International Associations of Police (IACP) and served on the Executive Board of the Division of State and Provincial Police until May 2008. He was a member of the VFW, Post 15031 and American Legion Post #129, Toms River; Former Troopers Association and IACP. He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Mary (Bercich) Wladich of Hoboken and brothers Martin, Hoboken and Jack, Wesley Chapel, FL.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Patricia (Long); sons Frank J. and his wife Diane and James; daughters Susan Wladich and Deborah Myers; 6 grandchildren Dylan and Geoffrey Meyers, Kate Mancini, James Wladich; Alex Sproviero, Garrett Schafer and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan, NJ. A Mass will be held on Thursday, January 12, 32017 at 10 am at St. Denis Church in Manasquan. Entombment will follow at St. Catharine Cemetery in Wall Twp..
