AGE: 91 Long Branch

Services for Frank R. Hodes, 91, of Long Branch, will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23 at King Solomon Cemetery, Clifton. Arrangements by Menorah Chapels at Millburn, Union. He passed away Monday, Feb. 21, 2011. Born in Newark, he resided in Springfield from 1956 until moving to Long Branch in 2010. A graduate of Newark College, he operated his own independent insurance company for more than six decades. Mr. Hodes was the founding president of the Men's Club of Temple Beth Ahm in Springfield and a member of the synagogue for more than 50 years. A World War II army veteran who was wounded on the French-German border, he was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He and his late wife, Mildred, were passengers on the hijacked cruise ship Achille Lauro in 1985.

He is survived by his brother, George Hodes; and his sisters, Edith Rose and Viola Meskin. He was predeceased by Lena Silver, William Hodes, Irving Hodes and Pearl Appel. Frank was married to Mildred Applebaum Hodes from 1942 until her passing in July 2006. Mr. Hodes leaves a son, Dr. Steven E. Hodes and his wife, Ardith of Lincroft; and a daughter, Carol A. Hodes of Old Bridge, as well as two grandchildren, Jaclyn Hodes of New York City, and Seth Hodes of Los Angeles, Calif.

I'm so sorry to hear of Frank's passing. I worked with him for several years ....a wonderful man.

I am so sorry to hear of Frank's passing. I worked with him briefly about 18 years ago but remember him fondly to this day. My deepest sympathy to the family. I know he will be missed.
