AGE: 72 • formerly of Highlands

Genette Arlene Henderson, 72, formerly of Highlands, NJ, passed away on the morning of January 27, 2017 in Durham, NC from complications of MS. She was born in Wilkensburg, PA to the late John A. Henderson and Genevieve L. Henderson (nee Brown).

Genette graduated from Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, PA with a degree in Spanish and later earned a Masters Degree in Spanish Literature. She was a long-time teacher for the Middletown Township Board of Education beginning her career in 1969 where she taught Spanish at several schools in the township. Her assignments included Bayshore Middle School followed by Thorne Middle School and then both high schools. She retired in 1999 and subsequently relocated to Durham, NC.

Genette was a faithful member of the Middletown Township Educational Association and devoted her life to many progressive causes both in the U.S. and internationally. She loved to travel to Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries.

She is survived by her brother Barton A. Henderson of Wernersville, PA and a sister Margaret H. Davenport of Ococee, FL. She was preceded in death by her brother Dr. John A. Henderson, III. She is also survived by three nieces, two nephews, and three cousins.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Cremation Society of the Carolinas. All services will be private. Donations may be made to one of her favorite charities—National Organization For Women, Greenpeace, Doctors Without Borders, or the American Civil Liberties Union.
