Wilmington, NC - George A. Walsh, DDS, age 72, passed away on April 3, 2018, after a life well-lived and a battle royal fought against cancer. Dr. Walsh was born and raised in New Jersey. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Mary Walsh and his brother, Lawrence. He is survived by his sister, Mary Ellen Monagle, his wife, Maryanne Looney Walsh, his daughter, Mary Catherine and her fiance, Christopher Pierce, a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and good friends who will miss him greatly.

He is a graduate of Saint Rose High School, Belmar, NJ, Glassboro State College, and Georgetown University School of Dentistry. Dr. Walsh served in the Vietnam War as a Chief Dental Officer in the United States Air Force. After completing his military service, he opened a private dental practice in Belmar, New Jersey. He then practiced dentistry for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Over the course of his dental career, he worked as an adjunct professor at University of Buffalo, Duke University, and University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. In retirement, he enjoyed teaching in the Dental Hygiene Program at Cape Fear Community College and volunteered at the Tileston Clinic and the Cape Fear Clinic.

In addition to his love of dentistry, George was an avid fisherman, carpenter, potter, photographer, chef, gardener and teacher. He was a good man who loved life and was well-loved by those who knew him well. May he rest in peace.

The family would like to thank all those who took such good care of George throughout his illnesses, and thanks Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their gentle and caring support in his final days.
