George E. Black Obituary
George E Black

AGE: 87 • Toms River

After a long and honorable life, George Edward Black passed peacefully on June 22 in Toms River, having enjoyed 87 years. George was born on May 27, 1930, in North Arlington, New Jersey, to John and Wilhelmina Black. As a high school athlete, George excelled in football and track, and developed a lifelong passion for the NY Football Giants and the New York Yankees. But the true passion he developed in high school was for Margaret Brummer, now is wife of 65 years. After serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War (1950-54), George joined his hometown police force, and proudly served for 25 years. To Serve and to Protect was a motto that George held dear to his heart until he retired as a lieutenant. In addition, George was a member of the North Arlington Volunteer Fire Department, serving 28 years with Schuyler Engine Co. #2. He also belonged to the North Arlington Elk's Lodge #1992. Retiring to the Lake Ridge community in Toms River, George enjoyed his social involvement with the men's club, fishing club, and bowling league, as well as the Retired Police and Firemen's Association of Ocean County, Local #8. George was also an active member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Manchester. George had a passion for drawing, and took great pride in designing the official North Arlington Borough Seal as well as the logo and shoulder patch still worn by members of the police department, fire department, and emergency squad. George loved to cook, and he relished the social experience of sharing food. In retirement, he and Marge traveled widely, enjoying many fond memories from around the world. George is survived by Margaret, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life. George also leaves behind sons, David and John (and wife Susan), daughter, Donna McCarron (and husband Dan), and grandchildren, John, Daniel, and Matthew. Visitation is Sunday 2-6 PM at Oliverie Funeral Home 2925 Ridgeway Rd Manchester. Funeral Service is Monday 11 AM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Manchester with entombment to follow at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.
