George F. Mazauskas, 85, of Leonardo, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, surrounded by his children at CareOne at Wall. Mr. Mazauskas was born in Newark and had lived in Roselle, Irvington and Highlands prior moving to Leonardo 25 years ago. He was a packaging technician for Jiffy Packaging in Hillside for 30 years. He was also a former Irvington councilman. Mr. Mazauskas was a U.S. Merchant Marine veteran, serving during World War II.
He was predeceased by his former wife, Joan Lacey Mazauskas, in May 2003. He is survived by his wife, Stella Mazauskas of Leonardo; three sons, Lawrence Mazauskas of Boca Raton, Fla., George Mazauskas Jr. of Belmar, and Matthew Mazauskas of Howell; three daughters, Deborah Ahearn, Lauretta Butler and MaryAnn Mazauskas, all of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Mr. Mazauskas was the third of 12 siblings. His family meant everything to him and was a role model to all who knew him.
Visiting will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23 at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24 at the funeral home. Committal will be private.
