AGE: 98 • Allenhurst

George R. Daly, 98, Allenhurst, passed away Tuesday August 15th at home.

George was born in Newark, NJ and lived most of his life in Deal, moving to Allenhurst in 2005. A graduate of Asbury Park High School class of 1938 he was an outstanding baseball player on the varsity team who caught the attention of professional baseball scouts. He went on to serve as a Sergeant in the Army in the Caribbean Theatre for 24 months serving in Guatemala. He attended the University of Virginia and was a lifelong member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. George founded Kantor-Daly Ford in Farmingdale and later worked for Kitson Chevrolet. He was a member of both Deal Golf & Country Club and Old Orchard Golf Club as well as the Oakhurst Gimbel-Leahy Quirk VFW.

A lifelong fan of the NY Yankees, in addition to his family George loved people, making life-long friends with all his neighbors and everyone he met. When not on the golf course you could find George in his yard, tending his flowers and listening to music.

George was pre-deceased by his parents, Michael and Ada Daly, his six siblings, and his wife of 66 years, Phyllis Harvey Daly in 2015. Surviving are his children George Jr. (Karen), West Long Branch, Meredith (Pete) Wickman, Cinnaminson, Betsy (Keith) Rinehart, St. Louis, MO, and Ann (Craig) Goings, Haddonfield; his grandchildren Ryan & Geoffrey Daly, Peter (Maddy) & Libby Wickman, Stephen Rinehart & Laura (Kevin) Staskel, Tommy & Chris Goings; and great granddaughters Harlow Rinehart and Julia Staskel; and friend Ann Marie Thomas.

Mass of Christian Burial Monday, August 21st at 10:30 am at St. Mary's RC Church, Deal. Burial to follow in St. Anne's Cemetery, Wall. Contributions in memory of George may be made to the VFW, 212 Norwood Avenue, Oakhurst NJ 07755 or the Allenhurst First Aid Squad, Boro Hall, 125 Corlies Avenue, Allenhurst NJ 07711.
