George Thomas Sinnott Obituary
George Thomas Sinnott

AGE: 68 • Oakmont, PA

George Thomas Sinnott, 68, of Oakmont, PA (formerly West Orange, NJ) died Monday, April 17, 2017 at home following a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born January 17, 1949, he was the youngest son of Lioba (Tracy) Sinnott of Lakewood, NJ and the late Edward Farrington Sinnott. He was the cherished husband and best friend for 45 years of Janet (Possumato) Sinnott. Loving father of Thomas G. Sinnott of Collegeville, PA and Joseph M. (Rebecca) Sinnott of O'Hara Township, PA. Adored by grandsons Michael and Anthony, who will greatly miss their time spent climbing on, laughing with, and hearing stories from their beloved Grandpa. Also survived by brothers Edward J. Sinnott of Lakewood, NJ and Paul R. (Holly) Sinnott of Manchester, NJ along with niece Tracy (Shawn) Comer of Lake Ridge, VA and grand-nephews Aiden, Erik, and Ian. George was a resident of West Orange, NJ for 40 years before moving to Oakmont in 2015 to be closer to his grandsons. He made the most out of his brief time in Southwestern Pennsylvania, taking every opportunity he could to satisfy his 22-year passion for the game of golf. Be it out on any public course, practicing in the construction zone by his apartment, or simply watching it on television, George was not shy about his love for the game and excitedly soaked in the full week of Oakmont's U.S. Open in 2016. Among his final wishes was the donation of his golf equipment to The First Tee of Pittsburgh. Despite his love of golf, it always took a backseat to spending time with his family, who he had crying with laughter in his final days, a testament to George's quick wit, his ability to accentuate the positive, and his genuine appreciation for all of life's blessings. Even throughout his final hours, George often seemed concerned more about the comfort and well-being of others than of himself, consistent with his conscientious and giving nature and his unceasing focus on the safety and security of those around him. George will also be remembered for his strong work ethic, exemplified by his 41 years working for Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, first for 30 years in Newark and then most recently for 11 years in Wall Township as Chief Operating Engineer before retiring in 2015. Friends and relatives will be received at the BURKET - TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont on Thursday, April 20, 2017, from 5-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, April 21, 2017, 10 a.m. St. Joseph Catholic Church, EVERYONE PLEASE MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH, 342 Dorseyville Road, O'Hara Township, with Fr. Thomas R. Miller, Celebrant. George will be entombed at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Verona on Saturday, April 22. In lieu of flowers, George has requested that donations be made in his honor to Catholic Charities - Diocese of Pittsburgh, 212 Ninth Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222,
