AGE: 86 • Lakewood

Geraldine A. Walters Smith, 86, of Original Leisure Village in Lakewood, passed away on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at Ocean Medical Center, Brick. Born and raised in Staten Island, she moved to the Original Leisure Village of Lakewood in 1994. Gerry was a communicant of St. Dominic's RC Church in Brick. Living at Original Leisure Village, Gerry enjoyed being a member of various clubs which included: The Camera Club, The Italian American Club, The Irish American Club, The Here We Are Club, and The Women's Club, where she served as Past President. Gerry was also a member of the NY Women's Club for which she has been a member for 60 years. With her love of Photography, Gerry was the main photographer for the Original Leisure Village Newspaper, "Leisure Village News." She belonged to the Original Leisure Village Foundation and was a Regimen representative in the Village. In Gerry's spare time, she loved taking bus trips and especially going to the theatre.

A graduate from New Dorp High School in 1948, Gerry attended the Baker Business School where she began her career in the insurance field and later spent her time as an Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of the Graniteville Textile Company in Staten Island for 29 years until her retirement in 1994.

She was predeceased by her parents, George and Louise Walters, and her husband, Robert Smith.

Surviving is her brother, Ronald Walters of Colorado Springs, CO, six nephews, one niece, and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 10 from 2-5 PM at the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 11 at 9 am at St. Dominic's RC Church, Brick. Entombment will follow at the Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.

Memorial contributions may be made in Gerry's name to the Leisure Village Foundation.
