AGE: 95 • Whiting

Gerri was born on February 10, 1922 in Jonesboro, NC to Pearlie McFarland Gunter and Iranus Milford Gunter. She was the eighth born of 9 children - 3 brothers and 5 sisters, all of whom have pre-deceased her. She graduated from Jonesboro H.S.

During WWII she moved to Washington, D.C. and got a government job with the Office of Dependency Benefits approving benefits for military dependents. After a short time, the office moved to Newark, NJ where she spent her evenings as a "USO Girl". Shortly after the war was over, she met Duncan MacQueen, a blind veteran returning from the war. They married on September 7, 1946, moved to Toms River and raised 3 sons; Duncan, III, Richard and Scott.

Over her lifetime she was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary where she held county and state offices, and The Daughters of the American Revolution. In her free time, she served as a visiting homemaker of Ocean County and drove deliveries for Meals on Wheels.

Her husband passed away on May 14, 1992 and she moved to Crestwood Manor shortly thereafter. She is also predeceased by her son, Richard. Gerri is survived by her sons; Duncan, III of Somerset, NJ; Scott of Toms River; Five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Road, Whiting on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm. A service will be held on Saturday at 9:30am followed by burial at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River, NJ. To send online condolences, please visit us at Anderson campbellwhiting.com
