Shelton - Gertrude C. (Doody) Kennelly, age 90, of Shelton, beloved wife of the late Francis X. Kennelly, passed away at Bishop Wicke Health Care Center on February 18, 2018. She was born on January 22, 1928 in Jersey City, NJ to the late Dr. William M. and Gertrude C. Doody. She is survived by her daughters, Eileen Kennelly and Kathleen Wielk and her husband Lawrence Wielk; her four grandchildren, Brian Wielk, Christopher Wielk and his wife, Blair Pfander, Matthew and Emily Wielk; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her three brothers, William, John, and Thomas Doody. Gertrude was a graduate of St. Dominic's Academy, Jersey City, NJ. She earned a B.S. in Nursing from Mount St. Vincent College, New York, NY, and did her nursing training at St. Vincent's Hospital, New York, NY. She was very proud of being a nurse and mentioned it to everyone she met well into her older years. During the years after her husband's death, she resumed the profession and was a medical/surgical nurse at Riverview Hospital, Red Bank, NJ.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday February 21, 2018 from 4:00pm-7:30pm in the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc. 11 Wooster Place, New Haven, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Gertrude's cousin Monsignor Peter Doody in St. Michael Church, 29 Wooster Place New Haven, CT at 12 noon on Thursday February 22nd. She will be interred beside her husband in St. Catharine's Cemetery, Sea Girt, NJ on Friday February 23rd at 12 noon. Friends are welcome to attend the graveside services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Interfaith Neighbors Nutrition (Meals on Wheels) 810 4th Avenue, Asbury Park, NJ 07712 or United Methodist Homes, 580 Long Hill Avenue, Shelton, CT 06484 Attn: Dev.
