AGE: 93 • Spring Lake Heights

Gloria Hope Petrino (nee Gugletto), of Spring Lake Heights, New Jersey, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 29th just short of her 94th birthday. Born in New York City, she lived in Glen Rock, NJ for 30 years prior to moving to the Heights in 1983.

Mrs. Petrino was predeceased by Michael A. Petrino, her husband of 57 years, and, her son, William D. Petrino of Westfield, NJ.

Mrs. Petrino was a graduate of the Mount Vernon School of Nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse. She was a dedicated homemaker, devoted to her children and extended family, and an active volunteer in the community.

Gloria was very involved with member clubs of the N.J. State Federation of Women's Club and received the Order of the Lily for continued service. She was a past President in both the Bergen County and Spring Lake (1992-1996) chapters. As a member of the Spring Lake Woman's Club "Knit Wits," she was among those recognized in 2005 for donations of handmade blankets, booties, caps and bonnets for new born babies, many of whom were in neonatal care.

A strong believe in giving back, she was as an active volunteer with the Visiting Nurses Association of Central Jersey and over the years was a regular at the VNA Thrift Shop in Manasquan. She also volunteered at the Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune and was recognized for serving more than 500 hours.

Mrs. Petrino is survived by sons Michael A. Petrino, Jr. of Sarasota, Florida, and Richard E. Petrino of Kinnelon, NJ, as well as daughter G. Diann Petrino (Stancati) of New Egypt, NJ; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Saturday, January 21st, 10:30 AM at St. Catharine's R.C. Church in Spring Lake, NJ with a luncheon to follow at Doolan's Shore Club also in Spring Lake. Interment will be private. O'Brien Funeral Home in Wall is in charge of arrangements.
