AGE: 93 • Tinton Falls

Harold G. Lenz, 93, of Tinton Falls, NJ passed away Friday, May 26, 2017, surrounded by his loving family, living life fully.

Above all else, he was a man of faith and conscience, dedicated to his family, devoted to Trudi, his wife of over 63 years, son Peter, and grandchildren Christa and Stefan.

Harold was a kind, loving, caring man who delighted in his connections with his family, friends, and those in his communities; including Seabrook Village and their German Club, as a charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Holmdel, NJ, the Shade tree Commission, IEEE, and American Apitherapy Society. He loved the arts, especially classical music and opera

He excelled as an electronics engineer, retired from Bell Labs. During his work years he built guidance systems for leading edge jets, helped build and launch Telstar, the world's first commercial satellite and travelled the globe building satellite tracking systems. He designed and helped lay trans-Atlantic telephone cables. And he built the world's first fiber optic cable system. These were glorious days for him! He was awarded the Diplom-Ingenieurs from the Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT), Universität Fridericiana zu Karlsruhe (Technische Hochschule).

Harold was born in Shanghai, China, February 4, 1924, the son of Harald Rudolf Lenz (born 1881 in Kobe, Japan) and Anni Agnes Martha Lenz (born 1899 In Berlin, Germany), who have predeceased him.

He was predeceased by his wife Trudi and his brother Rudy. He leaves his son, Peter of West Orange, NJ, and grandchildren, Christa a Social Worker in Albuquerque, NM and Stefan an engineering student in West Orange, NJ. In Germany are his niece Heidi Cotte and sister-in-law, Inge Lenz.

The memorial service celebrating his life will be Sunday, June 4 at 3:30 pm, at The Atrium in Seabrook Village (At Town Square), 3000 Essex Road, Tinton Falls, NJ.
