Bradley Beach - Harold J. Ford, 93, of Bradley Beach died Thursday December 28, 2017 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Harold was a commercial fisherman and later managed the Fisherman's Co-op in Point Pleasant. Mr. Ford enlisted right after the attack on Pearl Harbor and served in the Navy during World War II. He remained active his whole life, taking up walking and jogging after his retirement at age 75 and competed in many 5K and 10K races in the 70+ age divisions. He was always the first up and out to door every morning.And although Parkinson's slowed him down in his 80s, he didn't stop moving, taking up boxing during the last six months of his life.Born in Long Branch, he was a lifelong resident of Bradley Beach. Harold will be missed by his friends, neighbors and also his community at the Church of the Ascension where he was a long time communicant, usher and member of the Holy Name Society. Surviving are his wife Philomena, his sons James and his wife Adrienne of Abingdon, PA, and Richard and his wife Marishyl of Decatur, GA, his sister Joan Ward of Lakewood and his four grandchildren Seamus, Elizabeth, Evelyn and Beckett. Relatives and friends may call on Thursday January 4 from 3:00 - 7:00 PM at the Ocean Grove Memorial Home 118 Main Avenue, Ocean Grove. A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Friday at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Ascension 501 Brinley Avenue, Bradley Beach, Interment will be at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
