AGE: 92 • Vero Beach, FL

Helen Murphy MacMillan passed away on November 7, 2016 at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, Florida. She was 92. Helen was born in Montreal, Canada on January 13, 1924 and moved with her parents to New Brunswick, NJ as a young child. She resided in Matawan, NJ for over twenty-five years before moving to Seaview Village in Brick, NJ in 1982 and, then to Vero Beach in 2009.

She was a 1942 graduate of St. Peter's High School in New Brunswick. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education from the New Jersey State Teacher's College (Trenton State) in 1946. In 1955, Helen received her Master of Education from Rutgers University. She retired after 26 years in education having worked as the Head of the English Department at Freehold Regional High School in the late 1950's and as a Guidance Counselor at Matawan Regional High School.

Helen was a member of Sirius Chapter No. 123 of the Order of the Eastern Star and proudly received her 50 Year pin in 2013. She was a former member of the Matawan United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and a member of St. Andrew's Methodist Church in Toms River. She also was a former member of the Women's Club, Kitchen Band and Bocce Club of Seaview Village. She enjoyed spending time with her family, vanilla milkshakes, watching the NY Yankees and Duke University's men's basketball and, traveling throughout the United States and Canada by RV.

Helen was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Donald B. MacMillan, in 2013. She is survived by her daughter, Meg and son-in-law Michael Siciliano of Vero Beach, FL; grandson Anthony of Raleigh, NC; granddaughter Kristy of Philadelphia, PA; a brother-in-law Robert MacMillan and his wife, Phyllis of Blue Springs, MO; and, three nephews and their families. She is also survived by her "adopted" daughter, Sue Manganiello, of Vero Beach, FL and a very dear friend, Toni Bell, of West End, NJ.

Visitation will be held at the Bedle Funeral Home, 212 Main Street, Matawan, NJ on Sunday, November 13th from 3PM - 7PM. A service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, November 14th at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Old Tennent Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in Helen's memory to VNA & Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
