AGE: 72 • Manchester

Heliodora "Dora" Figueroa died Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She was 72.

Born in Hayales, Puerto Rico, she resided in Lakewood before settling in Manchester 12 years ago.

Prior to retiring, she was a preschool teacher for the Lakewood Multicultural Preschool, where she worked for 8 years. Dora was a founding parishioner of St. Anthony Claret RC Church in Lakewood and volunteered in many capacities with the parish, including acting as a special minister. Dora found a special connection with everyone in her life. Always giving to others, she loved to be with her family. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her parents, Angel Melendez and Otilia Santos.

Surviving is her loving husband of 49 years, Luis; 3 children: Mariette Gallagher and her husband Patrick; Michelle Britt and her husband Edward; and Louis Anthony Figueroa and his wife Maria; 5 grandchildren: Anthony, Azaria, Connor, Brendan, and Jaden; 7 siblings: Angel Santos and his wife Elba; Benito Melendez and his wife Maria Luisa; Amelia Aponte and her husband Tomas; Teodoro Melendez and his wife Ana; Carmelo Melendez and his wife Margarita; Hipolito Melendez; Maria Melendez; and many other extended family members.

A visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-7PM at the D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday at 11AM at St. Anthony Claret RC Church, Lakewood. Interment will follow at St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Heliodora's name to the .
