AGE: 89 •

Howard L. Mueller passed away Monday, January 16, 2017. Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Richmond Hill, NY and Westfield, NJ with parents Frances & Louis Mueller. A WWII veteran, at 17, he enlisted in the US Navy, with orders to complete 12th grade. He attended Stevens Institute & graduated from Newark Academy of Art. While a student, he was a lab tech with Merck & Co., later became an art studio assistant in NYC. He worked up to Sr. Designer & Art Studio Mgr. at AT&T Bell Labs for 36 yrs. at Murray Hill & Holmdel sites. He served as Bell Labs Telephone Pioneers Chairman of Community Services, a founding member of the Holmdel First Aid Squad, coached baseball & softball for the Holmdel Youth Athletic Assoc. He was Tribal Chief of 3 YMCA Indian Guide Tribes, a church deacon and choir member for 52 yrs., was a member of Red Bank Presbyterian, Holmdel Community Church, & The Presbyterian Church of Toms River. He was Chief Editor & a writer for "The Legionnaire" newspaper, a writer for the "Renaissance Times", & Founder/Editor/Writer of the "Harrogate Courier" magazine. After retiring from Bell Labs, he even tried his hand at blueberry farming for 5 yrs. Howard was predeceased by his wife, Betty Mueller; & by 2nd wife, Judy Mueller; as well as sister, Joan Haufler; & his children, Pamela Mueller, Bryan Mueller, & Craig Mueller. He is survived by his daughter; Leslie Balogh, & granddaughters; Lauren Balogh and Lindsay Balogh, by whom he will be missed. Burial will be at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in a private family ceremony. A Public Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday Feb. 4, 2017 at The Presbyterian Church of Toms River, 1070 Hooper Ave., Toms River. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in Howard's memory to The HOPE Center at www.houseofhopeocean.org. Arrangements have been entrusted to the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, NJ.
