Irene H. Kappes Obituary
Irene H. Kappes

Tinton Falls - Irene Kappes, 79, of Seabrook Village formerly of Middletown, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at her home.

Irene was born on July 28, 1938 in Dessau, Germany. She also lived in Innsbruck, Austria for a short time before moving to Sao Paulo, Brazil where she worked as a secretary and lived until 1962. She moved to the US to marry her husband; they lived in New Castle, DE then moved to Middletown, NJ in 1965 where they lived for 39 years. They moved to the Seabrook retirement community in 2004. She was a member of Luther Memorial Church, Tinton Falls.

Irene was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed gourmet cooking and gardening. She truly embraced her role as a homemaker. In her younger years she made almost all of her own and her daughter's clothing, and not a day went by that she did not cook a formal dinner from scratch and have it ready and waiting for her husband's arrival home from work. Her home, yard, family, and adored cats were always lovingly and meticulously cared for.

She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Irwin, in 2012. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Michael Shupp of Lincroft, grandchildren, Sophie and Michael; brothers Thomas and Bastian Hann, and sister Dorothea Pawelke, all of Germany, and several nieces and nephews.

A private service will be held at Seabrook. Jersey Shore Cremation Service, Manasquan, is entrusted in her arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Irene's name to the Monmouth County SPCA, 260 Wall St., Eatontown, NJ 07724. [email protected]
