Jacqueline Wanda Catley, 92, of Ocean Grove passed away peacefully on August 10, 2017. Jackie was born in Newark, and moved to the Jersey Shore as a young child. She attended Bradley Park Elementary School and graduated in 1943 from Neptune High School as the valedictorian of her class. At Neptune High School, she was president of the GAA and editor of The Blazer (newspaper). Jackie was employed by Bell Telephone as an operator in Asbury Park . Eventually, she became part owner of the Grove City Cleaners in Ocean Grove. She was very active in many organizations such as the Jersey Shore Women's Club, OG Elementary PTA, The Neptune Republican Club, St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the Bradley Beach Food Pantry and Red and Black Association. She was a volunteer reader at Bradley Beach Elementary School, a trustee of the Neptune Senior Center and 'First Mom of Neptune' when her son was the mayor. She was an excellent bowler who was on numerous teams, enjoyed playing poker and going on trips to Atlantic City.Jackie loved organizing travels by car, plane, bus, and ship to Alaska, Hawaii, Germany, Italy, New Orleans to name just some of her destinations. Of course, she loved her visits to Sanibel Island with friends and family. On the island she spent hours walking, biking, and collecting shells while practicing the 'Sanibel Stoop'. Her many trips were archived in her very detailed photo albums. Jackie was a wonderful, loving mom and "nan", who treasured her time with her children and grandchildren, and their friends. She was a great cook, baking delicious blueberry and apple pies, making terrific deviled eggs and whipping up dozens of brownies. She loved Vic's pizza, black and white milkshakes and crumb buns. Sitting on her front porch in Ocean Grove was special to her and her Franklin Avenue neighbors. She was a gracious hostess who welcomed friends and family into her home for many celebrations. Jackie was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Hadford Catley and her grandsons Brett Calabrese and Jonathan Doughty and by her parents, Wanda and James Cullen. Jackie is survived by her daughters, Gale Lynch and her husband Jim, Sanibel, FL; Barbara Calabrese and her husband Jay, Wall; and son, former Monmouth County. Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Catley and his wife, Marilynn and two grandchildren, Lauren Buss and her husband, Kris, and Kearstyn Catley. Jackie adored her great grandchild, Kali Buss. She, also, leaves behind nieces, nephews, and many precious friends. We want to thank the compassionate, thoughtful, and professional staff at Coral Harbor Healthcare Center (formerly MediCenter). They kept our mom active as long as possible and comfortable until her death.
