James Bergholt Obituary
James Bergholt

AGE: 80 •

It is with sadness that the family of James Bergholt, 80 years young, announces his passing after an ongoing illness. Jim was born in Jamestown, NY, and was a longtime resident of Freehold Township and Brick before moving to Jackson four years ago. A graduate of Princeton University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Jim worked as a chemical engineer for DuPont in Parlin, retiring in 1990. While attending M.I.T., he joined the ROTC program and completed his military service in the Army Reserve.

While a resident of Freehold, he coached soccer, basketball and baseball within the Freehold Township recreational sports program and was a respected coach for many years for the Girls Travel Soccer program. He also participated in the men's softball league and enjoyed playing with the same team for over 20 years. He enjoyed golf, watching the New York Yankees, and the monthly poker games with his buddies. He loved music, the arts, and the beach, and especially his grand-dogs, Brandy and Lacey. Always smiling, he was supportive, patient, and kind to everyone.

Surviving are his loving and devoted wife, Carolee Ann Vollono Bergholt; a daughter, Krista Bergholt, Mt. Laurel; a son, James Bergholt, Jr., and his wife Felice, of S.C.; his stepchildren, Jack, Phil, and Jill Sabatino, his faithful caregiver; a sister, Kathy Renda and her husband Nicholas, Bluffton, S.C.; and five grandchildren.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Saturday, January 21, 1-4 p.m. A memorial service will be held during the gathering at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (www.lbda.org).
