James R. Cressen Obituary
James R. Cressen

Toms River - Jim Cressen passed away in the loving arms of his wife, Ruth, at their home in Toms River, NJ, on Thursday, March 15. Jim was 73.

Known for his booming voice and even bigger heart, Jim was a retired member of United States Navy UDT Seal Team 2; deployed during the Vietnam War followed by a career as an equipment specialist from 1970 to 2004 at the Naval Air Warfare Center in Lakehurst, NJ.

He had tremendous pride in his service to his Country, and as a proud veteran, was recently named a Life Member of the George P. Vanderveer, American Legion Post 129 in Toms River.

An avid hunter-fisherman, Jim enjoyed his "retired days" working at Murphy's Hook House and Go Fish bait and tackle stores in Toms River. The camaraderie he enjoyed with his friend Dennis and the employees truly made his last years "Golden."

There was no better husband, father, grandfather, uncle, godfather, brother or friend than Jim…

He, and "his girl" Ruth would have been married for 50 years on October 11th. Jim was also tremendously proud of his son Rob, daughter Lynn and her husband Michael. He loved his 18-year old grandson Michael, nephew Robert Nadler, nieces Nicole Nadler, Heather Stokes, sister-in-law Carol Nadler and his much beloved and faithful companion Banya.

Devoted to his community Jim donated his time to the Disabled American Veteran's Foundation, Fraternal Order of Police, Toms River Elk Lodge 1875, Toms River Jaycees, the Fossils Car Club, the Navy Lakehurst Rod & Gun Club and Special Olympics.

Known as "Mr. Fix It" or "Papa," Jim would always lend a hand or a tool to anyone in the neighborhood or repair broken bicycles and fill basketballs for the neighborhood kids. He was always quick with a joke, advice, counsel or a story from his amazing life so long as his famous garage door was open!

Jim Cressen will be sorely missed.
