AGE: 78 • Manchester

James R. Curley, 78, of Manchester and son of John and Mary Curley, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday December 7, 2016 at Arista Care Nursing Home. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Richmond Hill, Queens, NY from 1963 to 1991, where he raised his family. During those years he was a member of the Cypress Hills Swim Club in Brooklyn where he was an avid paddle ball and volleyball player. Paddle ball and dancing were his passion and he would travel any where for a good game or Irish jig. He returned to his home state of NJ and resided in Manasquan before settling down in Manchester in 1994. He was a New York City Police Officer for 20 years at the 104 pct in Queens and retired in 1980. He was known as Pop Pop and Pop Pop Twinkie to his older grandchildren. He could make anyone laugh with his facial expressions and legendary stories. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Marta in 1992, his two brothers, John and Owen Curley and two sisters, Patsy Mitchell and Bernadette Denton. He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law's, Michael P & Colleen of Saugerties, NY, and James J & Jessica of Oceanside, NY, brother, Edward Curley of Jackson, three sisters, Margaret "Peggy" Bierman of Cape Canaveral, FL, Joan Dziemian of Spring Lake Heights, and Evelyn Nooney of Bradley Beach and six grandchildren, Michael, Rebecca, Emily, Nicole, Elizabeth and James. Visitation is Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Oliverie Funeral Home 2925 Ridgeway Rd Manchester. Funeral Liturgy is Wednesday 9 AM at St John's Church, Lakehurst with interment to follow at Long Island National Cemetery, Pine Lawn, NY.
