AGE: 84 • Fort Mill, SC

Mr. James Richard Burns, 84, died peacefully on May 30, 2017 at CMC-Steele Creek in Charlotte, NC. Jim was born in Englishtown, NJ, on April 20, 1933 to his late parents, Mable and James Burns. Jim lived most of his life in Rockaway and Long Valley New Jersey, before settling in 2004 in Fort Mill, South Carolina. Jim was a Korean Navy Veteran for six years where he served on the USS Newport News and in Rabat, Morocco, as part of 6th Fleet operations. He worked for Mack Truck, Tri-County Asphalt and retired from Wimpy Materials. He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus and was a 4th degree Knight. Jim was a member of the Gold Hill SC Veterans Club, American Legion and VFW. He was a life and exempt member of the Englishtown Fire Department. A loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, for Jim, his family and country were everything.

He was predeceased by his parents, James and Mable Burns, and his wife of 43 years, Louise M. Sciabica (Burns) on 02/17/2000. He is survived by, his son, Kevin J. Burns, his daughter, Sharon Santella and her husband Ernie, one grandson: Brian M. Burns, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to gather at Freeman Funeral Home, 47 E. Main Street, Freehold on Friday, June 23rd from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. There will be a funeral mass at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold, on Saturday, June 24th at 10:00 am; immediately followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery.
