James Thomas McCann Obituary
Mr. James Thomas McCann

Mr. James Thomas McCann, of Belmar, passed away at Jersey Shore University Medical Center on December 7. He was born in Newark NJ to James and Theresa (McGowan) McCann on December 24, 1936.He enjoyed his childhood and had many fond memories of Newark, playing basketball at Queen of the Angels. He attended Saint Benedict's Prep and Seton Hall University. He worked alongside his family in their hotel and bar business in Belmar. In 1961 he married Betty (Estridge) and moved to the Bronx. Jim worked in sales for United Parcel Service where he was a top salesman. He represented UPS in setting up the ICC Hearings in the South enabling the company's expansion to the Southern States. His goal was always to open his own club. He accomplished that by opening the Neck Inn in the Bronx and the Neck Inn North at Hunter Mountain NY. James worked for US Congressmen James J Howard and Frank Pallone Jr. as District Director. It was perfect for him, he enjoyed politics. Anyone would tell you, "don't get him started on that subject." His number one accomplishment was his family. He is survived by his wife Betty (Estridge), his son James McCann and his wife Michele, his daughter Liz Campanile and her spouse Victor, his grandchildren, Maile, Aidan, Emma, Liam and Ailish. He fought a tough battle through a long illness. He was often referred to as the "Man of Steel."Many thanks to the medical staff at JSUMC and the fine Doctors, especially Dr. John Schmidt and Dr. Ken Nahum.

Visitation will be on Sunday December 11, from 4 to 7 pm at the Reilly Bonner Funeral Home, 801 D Street, Belmar NJ. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00AM at Saint Rose of Lima RC Church, Belmar. Committal will be held privately at Saint Catharine Cemetery, Sea Girt.
