James W. Asbell

Tucson, AZ - James W. Asbell, 86, succumbed peacefully to cancer on Feb. 4, 2018 in Tucson, AZ with his daughter by his side. He was born in Paterson, NJ the third child of the late Herbert K. and Denise M. Asbell. His participation in 3 High School varsity sports led him to a degree in Physical Education from Panzer College. Jim spent 4 years in the U.S. Air Force. He settled in Atlantic Highlands and taught physical education at Asbury Park High School. In 1973 he completed a MS degree in school administration at Seton Hall University.

Jim moved to Oceanport, NJ spending the rest of his educational career (25yrs.) in the Rumson School District at Forrestdale Middle School. He coached varsity basketball and was responsible for various intramural sport programs and events. While teaching he became Athletic Director and coordinator for 23 extra-curricular after- school programs.

In June of 1993, after 35 years of service in the Education Profession, Jim moved to Tucson, AZ where he enjoyed travelling, golfing, listening to music, attending University of Arizona sports events and being a volunteer official for U of A field and track meets. He made annual visits to NJ to golf with old friends and enjoy lobster and fresh fish.

Jim is survived by his daughter Kristene Asbell (Robin), granddaughter Kahlia Roberts, nephews Bob Asbell (Pam), Richard Asbell (Sandy), Doug Macko (Jaye), niece Rhonda Manganiello (Richard), and stepson Michael Page (Stephanie).

Jim is predeceased by his parents, brother John Asbell, sister Anne Macko, nephew Johnny Macko and Jim's loving companion Gail Simpson Page.

A religious Service was held, Feb.16, 2018, at Desert Skies Methodist Church in Tucson, Arizona. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Research Fund.

A memorial gathering and service will take place at the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum, 356 Rt.35, Middletown, NJ. Friends are invited to attend on Sat. March 10th,2018 at 10:00am. Questions can be directed to the Mausoleum at 732-747-1710 [email protected]
