AGE: 85 • Brick

Jane E. LaDuke, of Brick and formerly of West Caldwell, died peacefully on December 22, 2016. Born in Flushing, NY on January 24, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Florence and Arthur Hatt.

She was predeceased by her husband of fifty years, Emmett L. LaDuke, on April 4, 2004 and by her companion, George Van Dalen, on April 3, 2014.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and MaryEllen LaDuke of Whitehall, PA, daughter, Susan LaDuke of Manchester, NJ, and daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Matthew Rignanese of Poughkeepsie, NY, as well as grandchildren Philip LaDuke, Emily LaDuke, Justin LaDuke, James Cutrone and his wife, Kimberly, Jacquelyn Kemmer, Grace Rignanese and Ethan Rignanese.

Jane was a graduate of East Rockaway High School and received her BA in Education from Albany State University and her MS degree in French and Spanish from Middlebury College. She enjoyed teaching in Maybrook and Montgomery, NY and later was a substitute teacher in the Caldwell-West Caldwell School District. Throughout her life Jane was active in civic affairs. She was a co-founder of the West Caldwell Residents' Association with her husband Emmett and a member of the Historical Society of West Caldwell.

In 1986 Jane and Emmett retired to Lions Head South in Brick, NJ where she continued to remain active in community affairs. She was a past President and committee member of the Lions Head South Board of Trustees and loved singing with the Lions Head Chorus. She was a long time member of the Town of Brick Planning Board. She and Emmett did find time to travel and enjoyed their trips to Spain, France, England, Scotland, Wales, The Alpine Region, Alaska, and Hawaii. Jane loved spending winters in Puerto Rico and family vacations to Sebago Lake in Maine.

Jane was a devoted Parishioner of Christ Episcopal Church in Toms River, NJ and a former parishioner of Church of the Holy Spirit in Verona, NJ, where she served on the Vestry and sang in the choir for many years.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., at Christ Episcopal Church, 415 Washington Street, Toms River, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church. Arrangements are under the care of Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Road, Toms River, NJ
