Janet Sinclair Schmidt Obituary
Janet Sinclair Schmidt

Red Bank - Age 99, a resident of The Atrium at Navesink Harbor in Red Bank, died November 29, 2017 at her home. She was born on August 19, 1918 in Kearny, New Jersey and lived in Little Silver prior to moving to The Atrium with her twin sister Mildred. Mildred died in 2014 at age 96. Janet was the daughter of Lillian Strong Schmidt, who died in 1972 and George W. Schmidt, who died in 1926.

Miss Schmidt spent 36 years in banking. At the time of her retirement she was assistant vice president of Midlantic National Bank in Red Bank, the first of her gender to fill that office.

She was active in her community. She was a sustaining member of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, a faithful member of the United Methodist Church of Red Bank, singing in the choir for over 50 years, a contributor to scholarships for the young people of the church and, upon relocating to the Atrium, an enthusiastic supporter of the CROP Walk fundraiser to fight local and world hunger. She and her sister were avid world-wide travelers.

Her survivors include many cousins and friends, and faithful caregivers in her later years. A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church of Red Bank at a date to be announced in January of next year. Following the service friends and family are invited to a repast in Fellowship Hall at the church. In lieu of flowers, gifts to the Scholastic Assistance Committee of the United Methodist church will be appreciated. The Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements and may be contacted to obtain information as to the date and time of the Memorial Service which will be in early 2018.
