AGE: 91 • Bradley Beach

Jean Cozzens, 91 of Bradley Beach passed away Thursday, March 9th 2017 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Jean was born in Bradley Beach where she remained a lifelong resident and graduated from Bradley Beach Elementary School and Asbury Park High School.

She was preceded in death by her parents Russell & Esther Sutts and her loving husband of 67 years, Herman Cozzens.

Jean was a Past President of the Bradley Beach Board of Education, a member, Past President and Trustee of the Bradley Fire Co. #3 Ladies Auxiliary, Bradley Beach, and, a member of the Bradley Beach Planning Board. Jean was retired from the Bradley Beach Elementary School Lunch Program.

Jean loved to sing and did so professionally. During WWII, she sang for the troops at the many USO functions in the Asbury Park Casino Roller Rink. She also sang in the Choir for the United Methodist Church of Bradley Beach for over 40 years.

She was also a longtime volunteer for the St. James Episcopal Church Food Pantry, Bradley Beach. A true Beach Baby, Jean spent her childhood summers at her dads fishing cabin on North Point of Beach, currently Island Beach State Park. She was also a daily fixture on the Park Place Avenue Beach, Bradley Beach until her mobility started failing.

Jean is lovingly remembered by her son Tom Cozzens and his wife Carolyn, Toms River, her daughter Sue Lanzetti, and husband Lou with whom she lived in Bradley Beach. A daughter Linda Stewart, Bradley Beach, two Grandchildren, Jeanna and Katerina Galanakis, her brother Gerald Sutts, Spotsylvania VA,

and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7pm Sunday at the Francioni, Taylor & Lopez Funeral Home, 1200 Tenth Avenue (corner of Atkins), Neptune NJ. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Bradley Beach First Aid Squad, 725 Main St, Bradley Beach, NJ 07720.
